Songs of My Father

Monica Mancini and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra celebrate the music of Cleveland native Henry Mancini.

The lonely night discloses
just a passing breeze
filled with memories
of the golden smile
that introduced me to
the days of wine and roses and you
.

To Monica Mancini, these lyrics and the melody that accompanies them are among the most poignant ever written.

“It’s a song,” she says, “that rips your heart out.

“But,” Mancini adds with a smile, “I’m biased.”

She’s not alone in that sentiment. Her father, Henry Mancini, is one of the most revered composers, conductors and arrangers to earn a place in the American songbook.

February 11 through 13, Mancini and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra will showcase that talent in “A Hollywood Valentine,” a program of film and television scores, most of which were penned by her dad. To read more, click here to subscribe. >>

Tender Moments
